About Our Shop

We're located in the heart of Kensal Rise, a vibrant neighbourhood in northwest London known for its independent businesses and strong community spirit. Our shop occupies a converted Victorian building with high ceilings, natural light, and comfortable reading nooks throughout.

The space is designed to encourage browsing at your own pace. Unlike chain bookshops, we've deliberately kept aisles wide and seating plentiful. You're welcome to spend as much time as you need reading opening chapters, comparing books, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

We've also created a dedicated events space at the rear of the shop where we host author talks, reading groups, and literary discussions. On event evenings, this space transforms into an intimate venue where conversations about books can flourish.

How to Find Us

By Underground

Kensal Rise station (London Overground) is a six-minute walk from our shop. Exit the station, turn left onto Chamberlayne Road, and we're on your right after about 400 metres. Look for our distinctive green and white storefront.

By Bus

Several bus routes stop within two minutes' walk: the 6, 52, 70, and 302 all stop at Chamberlayne Road. Get off at the Kensal Rise Library stop, and we're directly opposite the library building.

By Bicycle

Bike racks are available directly outside our shop, with additional cycle parking at Kensal Rise station. We're easily accessible via quiet residential streets from most directions.

By Car

Limited on-street parking is available on surrounding residential roads. Be aware that most nearby streets have controlled parking zones during weekday daytimes. The nearest car park is at Kensal Green Cemetery, a ten-minute walk away.

What to Expect When You Visit

Accessibility

Our shop is fully wheelchair accessible with a ramped entrance and accessible toilet facilities. All bookshelves are positioned to allow easy navigation, and staff are always available to retrieve books from higher shelves. Guide dogs are welcome.

Complimentary Coffee

Help yourself to free tea and coffee while you browse. We've partnered with a local roastery to provide quality coffee, and we always have a selection of teas available. Biscuits appear mysteriously around 3pm most days.

Children Welcome

We have a dedicated children's section with age-appropriate seating and a selection spanning picture books through young adult fiction. Children are welcome throughout the shop, and we regularly host family reading events on weekend mornings.

Browsing Encouraged

Take your time. We're not here to rush you through a transaction. Many customers spend an hour or more browsing, reading opening chapters, and chatting with staff about what they're looking for. That's exactly what we hoped for when we opened.

Common Questions

Booking is recommended, especially for weekend slots, but walk-in consultations are often possible during weekdays. If no one's available immediately, we'll arrange a time that suits you—often later the same day.

Absolutely. If we don't stock something, we can usually get it within three to five working days. Just ask at the counter or email us with the title and author, and we'll let you know when it arrives.

We accept used books in good condition for store credit, which you can use toward new purchases. Bring them in and we'll assess them while you browse. We're particularly interested in literary fiction, non-fiction, and quality genre fiction.

On-street parking can be challenging during weekday daytimes due to controlled parking zones. Weekend parking is generally easier. We'd recommend public transport if possible—we're very well connected by both bus and Overground.

Yes, just email or call ahead and we'll put books aside for you. We hold reservations for seven days, giving you plenty of time to collect them at your convenience.

Our events space is available for hire outside regular opening hours. We've hosted everything from private book club meetings to corporate team-building events centred on literature. Email us to discuss availability and pricing.
